Abstract

Agritourism is emerging as a viable approach to leveraging rural resources,

supporting the diversification of local economies, safeguarding traditions, and enhancing the

attractiveness of villages for visitors. In Eastern Europe and Central Asia, where rural areas retain a

strong agricultural heritage, authentic natural landscapes, and culturally distinctive communities,

this form of tourism is gaining increasing relevance within sustainable development strategies.

The paper presents relevant examples of agritourism initiatives from several countries in the

region and discusses current trends in the field in the context of rural modernization and the use of

digital tools for promotion and management. The study follows a descriptive–comparative approach

aimed at identifying common elements that foster the growth of agritourism and the conditions that

can support its further expansion. The findings highlight the potential of agritourism to stimulate the

revitalization of rural communities, strengthen local identity, and create sustainable opportunities

for the economic development of villages across these regions.
