OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF CAMPING TOURISM IN NORTH MACEDONIA

Abstract

Camps have had a significant place in human history, serving as temporary

settlements, recreational resorts, educational centers, and places for community bonding. Camping

tourism is a form of tourism that encompasses activities related to tourists staying in camps. The

subject of this paper is analysis of opportunities for development of camping tourism in North

Macedonia. The paper presents review of relevant literature concerning camping tourism and

camping tourism offer in the country. For the purpose of the paper, a research methodology and

secondary data sources have been used by consulting relevant literature, studies, and official

statistical data concerning the camping tourism in North Macedonia. An analysis and review of

camping tourism in the country has been made, based on a systematic evaluation of the current offer

of camping tourism offer using methodology of content analysis. Data analysis related to camp sites

and camping tourism in the country are presented in tabular and descriptive form in the research.

The research for this paper has shown that, in addition to the camping sites located in Ohrid lake

region, the capacity and potentials for camping tourism development in the remaining part of the

country is insufficiently used.
