STATE DECLINE AND REFORMIST IDEAS IN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN BULGARIA

Abstract


In this article an attempt is made to highlight some processes of regional development defragmentation that lead to increasing regional disparities between different municipalities and settlements inBulgaria. The paper analyses the hierarchical structure of public governance from the point of view of regional development, and provides an overview of the territorial development of the northern and southern parts of the country in the context of improving infrstructure and regional development. In conjunction with the tense analysis, proposals for the implementation of a number of infrastructure projects that are essential for regional connectivity and the development of the Bulgarian regional economy are outlined. The new approach presents various opportunities for further optimization and development of the regional economy, as well as opportunities for the implementation of additional policies for the development of the central, suburban part and other settlements at the municipal level. This will strengthen the agglomeration effect of the municipalities and create opportunities to fill the goal with complementary development of the accompanying service infrastructure, including attracting new investments and developing new territories within the municipalities. Thus, inequalities will be mitigated and new local points for business development and local economic concentration will be created.

Finally, relevant conclusions are drawn and new trends for the development of Bulgarian regions and their spatial development are outlined.
