Abstract

Sustainable development is the path to the development of the country. Striving to raise the standard of living, living conditions and improvement of the regions is important for Bulgaria's future place as part of the European Union. In Bulgaria, there is a concentration of the population in mainly large cities, with depopulation of territories. According to the latest statistics on the demographic situation of the country, Bulgaria is the country with the lowest average life expectancy in the European Union and respectively with the lowest working life expectancy, according to the European statistical office Eurostat. The demographic condition of the territory reflects on all spheres, but it has the most significant impact on economic development, since the economy of a country is driven by the active working-age population. It is the importance of the interconnection between demographic and economic development that determines the relevance of the problem and its multilateral aspects.
