FORMAL VS. NON-FORMAL EDUCATION AMONG THE ROMA - PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES TO SUCCESSFUL INTEGRATION
Abstract
The Roma people are one of the most vulnerable ethnic groups in Bulgaria. The low level of education largely determines the negative consequences in terms of employment, income, health, living conditions and hinders the successful integration of this ethnic group. The purpose of the current publication is to trace the results achieved in the formal education of Roma population and to assess the impact of policies in the field of Roma education. It also examines the role of non-formal education, in the person of the evangelical churches, in the formation of knowledge, skills and values supporting the educational process in the formal education of the Roma.
