BIOLOGICAL CONTROL WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT

Abstract


Biological control represents a sustainable and ecological approach to pest management through the use of natural predators, parasites, pathogens, and other living organisms. This article examines the core principles, methods, and concepts of biological control, including the classical, augmentative, and conservation approaches. The historical development of the term, its role within Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and the environmental advantages of biological over chemical control are also discussed. A comprehensive overview is presented of the application of biological control in modern agriculture and its significance for sustainable development and environmental protection.
