THE LEADER APPROACH 2021-2027: EXPANSION AND SUSTAINABILITY, OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Abstract


Rural areas should be home to empowered and viable local communities. Enabling both women and men to actively participate in policy-making and decision-making processes involving a wide range of stakeholders and networks, as well as all levels of government, is key to developing gender-sensitive the specific conditions, oriented to local conditions and integrated policy decisions and investments. Conserving natural resources, restoring the landscape, including cultural ones, greening agricultural activities and shortening supply chains will make rural areas more resilient to climate change, natural hazards and economic crises. The LEADER approach brings additional benefits compared to the traditional top-down management of EU funds. Local action groups should be representative of local communities and include all stakeholders.
