In urban landscaping, lawns are one of the main components of landscape compositions. They have important functions - biological, ecological, aesthetic, architectural, etc. The publication presents a literature analysis of seven species of grasses - Poa pratensis, Festuca rubra, Lolium perenne, Аgrostis tenius, Arrhenatherum elatius, Cynodon dactylon, and Trifolium repens, which are basic in creating lawns. Their botanical characteristics and ecological requirements, their resistance to trampling and their decorative qualities have been assessed.
For the creation of quality grass carpets is important and good agricultural techniques, including - tillage, fertilizing, watering, sowing, mowing, aeration and cleaning and weed protection, which is the subject of analysis in the article.
