RESOURCES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF URBAN CULTURAL TOURISM IN BERLIN

Veneta Frizinger

Abstract

I chose this topic because of the growing importance of cities as tourist destinations in which recreational activities are created and consumed. Big cities have been the most important type of tourist destination in the world since ancient times. For example, the development of thermal springs in the Roman Empire or the Grand Tour in the 16th-18th centuries, when wealthy British youth toured the cultural centers of Europe to enrich their knowledge. Urban tourism is primarily a product of urbanization. The essence of this process is the concentration of population, production and service activities in cities. Globally, about 52% of the world's population lives in cities, and by 2030 it will reach 61%. In order to turn the city into a tourist destination, it is necessary to have an identity, cultural and historical heritage, infrastructure, accessibility, accommodation and places to eat, events - congresses, sporting events and more. The most important thing for urban tourism is the presence of all these elements in one place.
