INTERNATIONAL ASSESSMENTS OF THE SCIENCE-BUSINESS INTERACTION IN BULGARIA

Abstract


The study presents some of the results of the project implemented at the Economic Research Institute at BAS in the period 2017-2020 on „Academic sphere and business in Bulgaria: current state and opportunities for expanding cooperation“. The main aim is to identify more important challenges for the development of the science-business interaction by reviewing and systematising the international qualitative assessments of its condition in separate areas of expert support. It is concluded that the national innovation system is characterised by the complete separation of the areas of „research“ and „innovation“, the low efficiency of the process of converting investment in research and development into applied results and the insufficient degree of its commercialisation. The classification of the established barriers to building the interaction between the academic sphere and business is done.
