FREQUENCY OF RISK FACTOR ACTIVE TOBACCO SMOKING AMONG BULGARIAN PATIENTS
Keywords:
smoking, awareness, patientsAbstract
Active smoking is by far the most serious risk factor for lung cancer. Proof of this is that in 85% of cases patients are smokers. Long-term smokers as well as passive smokers are most at risk of developing the disease. There is a marked relationship between the number of cigarettes smoked, the duration of smoking and the risk of developing lung cancer. The risk of lung cancer in smoking over 10 years, more than 10 cigarettes a day, is ten times higher than non‑smokers. Ten years after smoking cessation, the risk of ex-smokers equals that of non-smokers.
