PEST RESISTANCE TO PESTICIDES

Teodora Ilieva

Abstract

The study aims to establish the significance of pest resistance to pesticides. The material used includes worldwide scientific research to establish the extent of resistance. The results show that pesticide resistance is a huge challenge for global agriculture because the use of pesticides does not reduce the pest population. Repeated application of the insecticide results in the elimination of only the insects sensitive to it, and by selecting those that are resistant in an extremely short period, it is possible for the entire population to be resistant. The more times the insect population is exposed to pesticides, especially if they are broad-spectrum, the faster resistance will develop.
